What is effective remorse?
Confessing the offence, providing information about the source or trafficking network, helping uncover other crimes.
Reduction
Full disclosure of the network can cut sentence to one-third or one-quarter. Partial disclosure to one-half. Timing matters — earlier means greater reduction.
When it works, when not
Works when information is serious, sufficient, and offered in good faith. Fails when information is already known, false, or comes too late.
Risks
A confession is hard to retract. If the court finds the information insufficient, the original sentence stands. The decision needs specialist counsel.
