Wage attachment is a common collection tool, but the law confines it within limits.
Statutory cap
25% of net wages for ordinary debts. The remaining 75% is legally protected and cannot be attached.
Support exception
For support (children, spouse, ascendants), the cap does not apply. A larger share may be attached — sometimes 50% or more — provided the debtor retains a basic livelihood.
Protected wages
The minimum wage remains protected. Attachment applies only above the minimum wage.
Multiple attachments
If multiple enforcements compete, the 25% pool is split chronologically or by priority.
Debtor rights
The debtor can apply to reduce attachment if it threatens basic living, providing proof of expenses (rent, dependents, illness).
Pension attachment
Pensions also subject to 25%, with support claims also capped at 25% of pension.
